Kumbham Madhusudhan Reddy, former Principal of the University College of Arts, Osmania University, and a staunch supporter of the Telangana Statehood movement, passed away at his residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He was 90.

His final rites will be conducted at Filmnagar Mahaprasthanam at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

A distinguished academic and administrator, Reddy served as the dean of Social Sciences at OU and was widely respected for his scholarly contributions in the field of political science. He is also remembered for his balanced leadership and student-friendly approach.

During his tenure as principal of Arts College, when organisations like ABVP, PDSU, RSU, SFI, AISF and NSUI were active and political atmosphere on the campus was volatile, he maintained harmony and earned the affection and respect of students. A passionate crusader of statehood movement, Reddy was a trusted figure among both activists and political leaders striving for Telangana’s creation.

Born in 1935 in Shivannagudem village of Marriguda mandal in erstwhile Nalgonda district, he studied at V.V. College, Nizam College and OU Arts College.

He is survived by his wife Vimala, daughters Nalini, Arundhati, Gayatri and son-in-law Justice Abhishek Reddy, who is currently serving as a judge of Patna High Court.

Eminent persons from the academic, legal and literary worlds visited his residence in Narayanaguda to offer their last respects. Among them were retired Supreme Court judge Sudarshan Reddy, former OU Vice-Chancellor Suleman Siddiqui and scores of his students.
