Unidentified persons broke into nine shops in Chennai’s Periyamedu and also decamped with cash and valuables from there. 

Police sources said one Shankar Lal Sharma (58) of MKB Nagar is running a plywood shop at T.K. Mudali Street, Choolai. When he came to open the shutters on Friday morning (June 13, 2025), he found the locks were broken open and ₹25,000 missing from the cash box of the shop. 

Similar break-ins were reported from eight more shops in the same vicinity. The suspects decamped with ₹15,000 from two shops and attempts were made in six more shops after breaking open the locks. Based on the complaint, Periyamedu Police launched an investigation.

Another break-in was reported from a mobile phone show room in Vettuvankeni, East Coast Road. “On Friday morning (June 13, 2025), the manager of show room Premkumar found the locks of shutters broken when he went to open the shop, ₹1.7 lakh and six mobile phones were burgled from the shop,” police said.
