A total of 3,375 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured from farmers by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) through its 15 direct purchase centres (DPCs) set up in Virudhunagar district.
TNCSC has established the DPCs in Rajapalayam, Watrap and Kariyapatti taluks to buy the paddy from farmers during the summer season of 2024-25.
Ever since the DPCs were opened on May 26, the TNCSC has bought 3,375.960 tonnes paddy from 393 farmers till June 14. The amount for procurement of paddy has been deposited to the tune of ₹5.83 crore in the bank accounts of the farmers, Virudhunagar Collector V. P. Jeyaseelan said in a statement.
Paddy farmers in the district have been urged to sell their harvested produce at the DPCs.
