The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Tribes on Friday wrote to Alluri Sitharama Raju district Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar to issue the necessary instructions to the authorities concerned to prepare estimates for laying roads to Solabongu village in Pinakota panchayat of Anantagiri mandal at the earliest.
Taking cognisance of a report, which appeared in The Hindu on June 13 (Friday), highlighting how tribal children were crossing the Raiwada reservoir on boats to reach Tamarabba MPP Elementary School in Devarapalli mandal of Anakapalli district, the ST Commission Chairman D. Sankar Rao wrote to Mr. Dinesh Kumar.
The Collector then directed the Executive Engineer, Tribal Welfare, Venugopala Rao, to send proposals for laying a road from Veerabhadrapeta to Solabongu.
The ST Commission Chairman also directed the Commissioner of Civil Supplies to submit a report on the travails of the tribal people hailing from Buriga and China Konela, who were having to carry rations for 16 km on foot due to the withdrawal of the door delivery system of rations.
The tribal people thanked the ST Commission Chairman for his prompt response and The Hindu for highlighting their cause.
