A 40-year-old person allegedly murdered his wife, and then ended his life in Reddi Kancharapalem area of the city, late on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as N. Gopinath (40) and his wife N. Venkata Lakshmi (37) hailing from R. Kancharapalem. Gopinath worked as a painter.

As per the police, Venkata Lakshmi lodged a complaint with the Kancharapalem police against her husband recently, alleging harassment.

On Thursday night, Gopinath reportedly had an altercation with Venkata Lakshmi. Gopinath allegedly hit his wife with a dumbbell, resulting in her death on the spot. Later, he ended his life.

Kancharapalem police have registered a case. The bodies have been sent to King George Hospital (KGH) for postmortem.
