The Civil Supplies – Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on Wednesday seized 800 kg of ration rice from two persons at Arasampalayam in Erode district.

Acting on a tip-off that large quantities of ration rice were being stockpiled in and around Kodumudi, the police conducted vehicle checks at Arasampalayam. During inspection, they intercepted a van and found rice in eight sacks, each weighing 100 kg.

During inquiry, the two persons— Abuthahir and Sadiq Ali— confessed to the police that they were smuggling the rice. They further revealed that a man named Satheeshkumar from Karur district had instructed them to procure the rice. Following this, the police arrested the two and seized the rice.
