A man from Battuvaripalem village of Kaligiri mandal in SPSR Nellore district ended his life by hanging himself on Monday after reportedly facing harassment by a private finance company.
According to the sources, Komaram Rattaiah was a ‘Kallu Geeta’ worker (a worker engaged in toddy selling) and had taken loan from private financiers Five Star Company. From the past six months, he was unable to pay the EMI on time and the loan executives had allegedly harassed him before his family members for not paying the amount.
Recently, the financiers had written on Rattaiah’s compound wall that his house had been mortgaged. Unable to bear the humiliation, he took the extreme step on Monday at 7.30 a.m. when there was no one at his home. Meanwhile, the locals informed that microfinance institutions have been harassing people who had taken loans.
Kaligiri police officials informed that they have not yet received any complaint from anyone.
