The newly inaugurated two-lane elevated flyover at Pallipalayam was built in strict adherence to government quality standards and is completely safe, said Collector S. Uma on Thursday. She dismissed social media claims about cracks and falling stones as false, misleading, and intended to malign government initiatives.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin virtually inaugurated the ₹424.38-crore Malliyakarai–Rasipuram–Tiruchengode–Erode Road, along with the 3.40 km Pallipalayam flyover. However, Pattali Makkal Katchi’s working president, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, alleged construction flaws and corruption in the ₹320-crore flyover, demanding a probe after claiming cracks had appeared and stones had fallen.
Dr. Uma told reporters at the Collectorate the flyover was a long-standing public demand aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area, which the Chief Minister had now fulfilled. The project received administrative approval in 2018, with funds allocated in 2021.
She emphasised that the construction was overseen by international-level experts from MSV International and JSV Associates Engineers, with all government-mandated quality checks carried out at each stage. A structural and load test using 150 tonnes was conducted in February, confirming the bridge’s strength and safety.
“The flyover is structurally sound, safe, and meets all quality standards,” she said, adding that the contractor would carry out maintenance for seven years. “The public can use it with full confidence.”
