The Enforcement Bureau CID (EB CID) of the Tamil Nadu Police has destroyed over 7,139 kg of ganja so far this year.
The destruction of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is conducted at periodical intervals, and accordingly, on Friday (May 30, 2025), a total of 3510.68 kg of dry ganja, 0.860 kg of methamphetamine, 239.600 kg of ganja chocolate — all seized contrabands worth ₹4 crore in 112 cases — were incinerated at an authorised treatment and disposal plant in Thenmelpakkam, Chengalpattu district.
Additional Director General of Police, EB CID, A. Amalraj, supervised the process. He also issued strict instructions to the officials concerned to ensure the destruction of all seized narcotic substances without delay.
So far, in 2025, 7139.387 kg of dry ganja, 74.150 kg of hashish, 58 kg of charas, 1 kg of heroine, 241 kg of ganja chocolate, 0.860 kg of methamphetamine — seized in 355 cases — have been destroyed by the NIB CID Police, said a press release.
Meanwhile, the Avadi City Police on Friday destroyed over 70 kg of ganja and other narcotic substances at the plant. These contrabands were seized in 84 cases. Additional Commissioner of Police of Avadi City Police, K. Bhuvaneswari, oversaw the process. The police said 721 kg of ganja was destroyed in 106 cases in the last two years.
