An autorickshaw driver, identified as P. Thangamalai, 40, of Thappampatti near Andipatti in Theni district, was found dead on the premises of a school here on Saturday.

The police said that Thangamalai lived in Thappampatti with his wife and two children. He had left home and as he did not return, his family launched a search. When the family members were informed that a body was found on the high school premises on Thappampatti-Bala Combai Road, they rushed and identified the victim. The cause of his death was not known. Andipatti police have registered a case. A sniffer dog was pressed into service and the forensic experts lifted evidence from the scene of crime for analysis.

Theni Supreintendent of Police Sneha Priya and Andipatti Deputy Superintendent of Police Sivasubbu conducted inquiries at the spot. The officers said that based on the post-mortem report and from the review of the mobile phone and other investigation, further action would be taken in the case. No arrests had been made, the police added.
