A 55-year-old man and his daughter were killed in a road accident on Thammampatti-Thuraiyur Road in Uppiliyapuram police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police gave the names of the victims as K. Chandran and his daughter S. Valarmathi, 37, both of Gengavalli block in Salem district. 

The police said Chandran was riding a two-wheeler with his daughter and their relative’s seven-year-old son on the pillion when the fatal accident occurred when they were returning to their village after attending a function at Aathur. 

The lorry that came in the opposite direction collided head on with the two-wheeler causing the death of Chandran on the spot. Valarmathi died on the way to the hospital while the injured Ashwin was admitted to a private hospital at Thuraiyur.  The lorry driver has been named as the accused. The Uppiliyapuram police are investigating.
