A tigress was found dead in the Lakkavalli Range of the Bhadra Wildlife Division in Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday. The wild animal, aged about seven, is said to have died due to injuries it suffered in a fight with another tiger.

Senior officials visited the spot after the staff noticed the carcass of the tigress. A veterinarian from N.R. Pura conducted the post-mortem and collected samples from the body for further examination. The carcass was examined with metal detectors to check if it suffered bullet injuries.

The carcass was burnt as per set guidelines in the presence of Assistant Conservator of Forest Santosh Sagar, wildlife activists G. Veeresh and Madhu Mugathihalli, and representatives of the local panchayat.
