Heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Thursday evening, catching many commuters off guard and causing waterlogging and traffic snarls at key junctions across the city.

Serilingampally recorded the highest rainfall of 85 mm.

Among the affected locations was Mythrivanam, Panjagutta, Tolichowki, Langar Houz, Nanal Nagar, Irrum Manzil, Gajularamaram, Biodiversity junction, Parvath Nagar junction, Rajendranagar, Parade Ground, Paradise junction and Begumpet where waterlogging disrupted vehicular movement. 

Traffic police personnel and the Disaster Response Force (DRF) of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) responded to the situation to facilitate water drainage and restore traffic flow.

At around 7.30 p.m., the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued a weather alert on social media platform X. “Flash floods likely is some areas as cloudburst-like rain (80 to 100 mm) is being reported in many parts of the city. The intense spell may continue for the next two hours,” they said.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 7 p.m., Serilingampally recorded a rainfall of 85 mm – followed by 63 mm in Srinagar Colony, 56.8 mm in Khairatabad, 52.3 mm in Gachibowli, 50 mm in Saroornagar, 49.5 mm in Mythrivanam, 46.5 mm in Langar Houz, 44 mm in Yousufguda, 39.3 mm in LB Nagar, 38.8 mm in Borabanda, 36.5 mm in Jubilee Hills, 36.3 mm in Chanda Nagar, 34.8 mm in Moosapet, 34 mm in Mehdipatnam, 33 mm in Malakpet, 31.8 mm in Kukatpally, 31 mm in Banjara Hills, 29.8 mm in Ramanthapur, 29 mm in Uppal, 28 mm in Quthbullapur, 28 mm in Attapur, 27.8 mm in Golconda, 26.8 mm in Shaikpet.
