An 18-year-old girl submitted a petition to Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar here on Monday, demanding to rectify the mistake in her Class XI marksheet.
A. Jeyashree, a student of LPN Girls Higher Secondary School, living with her mother who is a daily wage labourer, said that despite completing her school education in 2024 itself, she was not admitted to any college, owing to the mistake in the marksheet.
She added that she wrote her physics examination on June 1, 2023. In the marksheet, it was recorded that she had passed the examination. But, when she applied for an engineering college in Madurai, following the announcement of Class XII board examinations in 2024, her application was rejected citing the confusion in the marksheet.
“In the online marksheet, it was registered as absent (AAA) for physics subject,” she added.
When she visited the School Education Department Office at Tallakulam, they directed her to the Department of Government Examination’s office near Periyar bus stand, said Ms. Jeyashree.
At first, they informed her that it would be rectified in a week, but as it did not get corrected, she again visited the office. “I was asked to visit the office in Chennai for further corrections,” she noted.
“I have already wasted a year of my higher education and still the mistake persists. Colleges are refusing to admit me,” she added.
An immediate solution was required to at least get enrolled in a college this academic year, Ms. Jeyashree said.
