Garbage woes
At Madakulam under Ward 71, garbage collection has become a matter of serious concern. Sanitary workers do not carry out garbage collection on a daily basis, creating inconvenience for the residents.
To worsen the situation, the garbage bins previously placed in Madakulam have been removed, leaving people with no designated place to dispose of their waste.
Consequently, residents are forced to keep garbage in their homes, leading to unhygienic living conditions. The Corporation Commissioner must take swift action to restore daily garbage collection services and reinstall garbage bins in Madakulam.

Provision for autorickshaws, taxis
As autorickshaws occupy a considerable portion of road, the stretch between the entrance and the exit points at Mattuthavani bus stand witnesses a sluggish movement of traffic. So if a provision is made for taxis and autorickshaws on the southern side of the road, free movement of vehicles on the main road could be ensured.

Pedestrian walkways
Regarding the news published in The Hindu on August 2, 2025, on pedestrian pathways, I would like to state that the city’s roads largely lack walkways on either side, posing a risk to pedestrian safety.
As the city administration embarks on the metro rail project and strives for urban transformation, prioritising pedestrian infrastructure is crucial. I request that priority be given to constructing pedestrian walkways on important roads such as Vakkil New Street, North Veli Street, and South Veli Street. This will not only enhance pedestrian safety but also ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
