Neglect in allotment
The Mahatma Gandhi market in Palayamkottai, rebuilt under the smart city scheme, was inaugurated in February this year. However, the grandeur structure now looks like an abandoned place due to non-allotment of shops by Tirunelveli corporation. The building has lost its charm in a short period due to poor maintenance and now defaced with posters and stickers eaten by cattle. The district administration and corporation must take necessary action to clean the venue and expedite the allotment of shops to the vendors.

Drainage trouble
The drainage system on the northern main road in Eruvadi is often blocked during the rainy seasoncs, leading to water stagnation and affecting the day-to-day life in the bazar, which is crowded with shops to cater the needs of both local and adjacent villages. The authorities in Eruvadi town panchayat must pay special attention to addressing this issue.

Dangerous bend
The dangerous curve along the canal side road, that connects Vattakarai and Konam, at the junction where it intersects with Nagercoil and Rajakkamanagalam main road. A wide concrete bund must be constructed to cover the concavity to prevent the possible accidents. The Public Works Department must ensure that the canal bank on the eastern side is properly strengthened to allow safe passage for vehicles at the curve.

Platform woes at Tirunelveli Junction Railway Station
Currently, express and superfast express trains originating and proceeding from Nagercoil or Kanniyakumari invariably operate from platform number two or three in the Tirunelveli Junction Railway Station. Most of the time, neither the lift nor the escalator in these platforms are functional. Passengers, notably senior citizens, face extreme difficulty in reaching these platforms.
With the Prime Minister recently having inaugurated the double track between Tirunelveli and Melapalayam, railway authorities must consider operating trains bound for or from Nagercoil from the first platform to ease passenger movement.
