The Government High School at Mettupalayam in Puducherry has achieved the distinction of being the first government school in the Union Territory to bag ISO 9001:2015 certification.
The certificate was awarded to the school, which was upgraded as a high school in 1990, for curriculum implementation, examination management, student support services, and infrastructure maintenance.
Ahead of granting the certification, a team from the Noida-based certifying agency, Assurance Quality Certification LLC, conducted detailed audits multiple times at the school to check a host of aspects including enrolment, methods adopted for teaching, lesson plan, syllabus, the ways students were being prepared for examinations, basic infrastructure, stability of the buildings and the surrounding environment besides the attendance register.
C. Baskara Rassaou, Headmaster of the school, said the team members from the certifying agency examined all aspects and interacted with the students as well as the teachers. The school, which was started in 1957 and upgraded as a high school in 1990, has 92 students and nine teachers. It had applied for quality certification recently.
“The school has improved its digital infrastructure by setting up a smart classroom with an ICT lab. The aim is to enrich students’ knowledge. The school also has a QR code to enable parents and the public to assess the performance of students and the teaching process. The school is also equipped with an open library and a herbal garden”, he said.
