At least 12 people were killed by lightning strikes in six districts of Bihar .

According to the State Disaster Management Department, Buxar reported 4 deaths, West Champaran 3, Katihar 2, and 1 death each in Kaimur , Lakhisarai and Sitamarhi districts.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the next of kin.

The Chief Minister has appealed to people to remain alert and stay indoors during thunderstorms. He also urged people to follow advisories issued by the Disaster Management Department to safeguard themselves against lightning and during heavy rains.
