Officials sounded alert in the villages located in the tribal Agency areas of Eluru district, as water level was rising in Godavari on Saturday (July 26, 2025). Water level in the river at Bhadrachalam was recorded at 35 ft and may rise further.

With the water level increasing in Godavari River, villagers staying on the river bund and in the low-lying areas were asked to shift to safer places. Flood level is rising for the second time in the last ten days.

Many streams were overflowing in the Agency mandals in Eluru district owing to incessant rains that have been lashing for the last two days.

“Discharge from Bhadrachalam was about five lakh cusecs on Saturday (July 26, 2025). Flood level at Polavaram spillway was recorded at 29 metres and the officials released about four lakh cusecs to the downstream,” the Irrigation Department officials said.

The Revenue, Irrigation and Police Department officials cautioned the people staying in the downstream as the flood level may rise further owing to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. Tribals and non-tribals, staying in low-lying habitations were moving to the nearby hilly areas, and were seen erecting tents.

“Velerupadu mandal received 72.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, 56 mm rainfall occurred in Kukunur mandal, Pedavegi and Buttaigudem mandals received more than 30 mm in the district,” the officials said. Collector K. Vetriselvi has directed the officers deployed on flood duty to be alert and shift the villagers to safer places.

The Collector instructed the Revenue, ITDA, Medical and Health, Police, Andhra Pradesh Transco, Rural Water Supply and other Departments to stay in the flood-prone villages and monitor the rescue and rehabilitation operations.
