The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the installation of streetlights adhering to Indian Roads Congress (IRC) norms on the accident-prone Container Road (NH 966-A), Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nithin Gadkari informed Hibi Eden, MP.
The power connection from the KSEB is expected by July 31. This is in addition to ₹90.02 crore spent to renovate the NH corridor and to build service roads at Mulavukad. Mr. Gadkari was replying to questions in this regard raised by Mr. Eden in the Lok Sabha.
The renovation work and streetlights will ensure safe travel through the corridor where threats loom in the form of accidents and miscreants. The NHAI had earlier taken the stand that local bodies ought to install streetlights, following which the issue was raised before Mr. Gadkari, the Lok Sabha, and senior NHAI officials. This was followed by a campaign titled ‘No Light, no Toll’, Mr. Eden said in a release.
