The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts in Kerala on Sunday (July 20, 2025).

It has declared an orange alert for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargode.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall (yellow alert) for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

A depression over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Uttar Pradesh has catalysed the current spell of intense rain over Kerala. The IMD will likely update its weather forecast for Kerala at 1 p.m.
