The Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation (SKSSF), Karnataka, warned of a state-wide protest if the government does not immediately bring to book the assailants and perpetrators of the murder of Kolthamajalu resident Abdul Rehman.
On May 29, SKSSF State Committee General Secretary Anis Kausari told reporters in Mangaluru that Abdul Rehman was hacked to death near Bantwal while his associate Kalandar Shafi was assaulted. He said Dakshina Kannada district is witnessing a spree of communal murders leaving the common man under perpetual threat.
Such incidents have been snatching the livelihood of people, particularly the working class, he said. He alleged that the murder was the fallout of provocative speeches by communal forces while the inaction by the Home Department has aided such brazen murders.

People gather during the funeral of 32-year-old Abdul Rehman.
Mr. Kausari said Abdul Rehman was not involved in any criminal activity and had been leading a secular life. He was the general secretary of the local Mohalla Committee promoted by SKSSF, which has been guiding over 500 mohalla committees in Dakshina Kannada. The deceased had cordial relationships with people of all religions. The Home Minister and the district in-charge Minister should visit his family to condole the death and provide at least ₹50 lakh compensation.
The SKSSF leader said the federation plans to conduct at least 100 blood donation camps and 1,000 prayer meetings in memory of Abdul Rehman in the district.
State Committee president Mufti Rafique Ahmed Hudavi and others were present.
