Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph has alleged that Health Minister Veena George and Minister for Cooperation, Ports and Devaswom, V.N. Vasavan, are morally and legally responsible for the death of D. Bindu, who succumbed to the injuries she sustained after an old building of the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, collapsed recently.
Opening a protest event titled ‘Samara Sangamam’ organised by the KPCC here on Monday (July 7, 2025), he said that the Ministers had a role in delaying the rescue works after the incident. “Mr. Vasavan is reported to have asked whether someone had tortured Bindu to death. None of us said so. But Mr. Vasavan and Ms. George interrupted the rescue operations for over two hours, claiming that nobody was under the collapsed building, even though Bindu’s daughter and husband insisted she was missing,” he added.
Mr. Joseph claimed that this could amount to a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Kozhikode MP M.K. Raghavan, United Democratic Front convener Adoor Prakash, KPCC working president Shafi Parambil, and T. Siddique, MLA, were among those present.
