Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener T.P. Ramakrishnan has alleged that efforts are being made to overthrow the State government through a malicious media campaign along with violent street protests taken up by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
He told the media on Monday (July 7, 2025) that the death of a woman in a building collapse at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, was being used to portray the entire public health system in a bad light. The UDF was also seeking the resignation of Health Minister Veena George holding her responsible for the unfortunate incident.
“The UDF and its affiliate organisations such as the Youth Congress and the Muslim Youth League are using this opportunity to indulge in violence. They have also announced that they would not allow Ms. George to attend public events. Some prominent media organisations are also publishing news reports to tarnish the health sector in the State,” Mr. Ramakrishnan claimed. He pointed out that the LDF, after coming to power in 2016, had made significant investments in both the health and education sectors, which was benefiting lakhs of people. “The government is ensuring enough budgetary support for the department. We need to understand that the highest number of people getting free treatment in the country are in Kerala,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said. Admitting that there could be isolated lapses and systemic issues in the health sector, the LDF convener said that efforts should be made to address them.
