The Ashok Nagar police have arrested three persons, including two history-sheeters, on the charge of murdering their relative following a quarrel over a matrimonial dispute.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as R. Kalaiyarasan, 23, of West Mambalam. When Kalaiyarasan was standing on 35th Street, Ashok Nagar, his relatives came on a bike and quarrelled with him over a petty issue, the police said. They abused and stabbed him before fleeing the spot. Passersby took Kalaiyarasan to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

The police initially booked an attempt-to-murder case but it was later altered as a murder case.

The arrested men have been identified as Sanjay, 19, Sakthivel, 20, and Sunil Kumar, 20, of West Mambalam. The police said the victim was married to Sakthivel’s sister, but they got separated due to differences. Sakthivel and Kalaiyarasaran were arrested after assaulting each other last year as well, the police said.
