Drainage lifting station

A lifting station for the underground drainage system project is being proposed in ward 54 of the Tirunelveli corporation, on the western bank of Anayarkulam. The proposed structure is located at the inlet point of the waterbody. During the monsoon, the storm water from the Reddiyarpatti hills during the monsoon and the surplus water from the nearby Vatcharkulam flows through this low lying area.

Constructing the lifting station at the location may obstruct the natural flow of the water. Given its ecological importance, the civic body should consider relocating the proposed lifting station to an alternative site.

Stray animal management

The poor housing conditions at the Melapalayam cattle shandy located within the Tirunelveli corporation for maintaining stray dogs as part of Animal Birth Control programme, have led to death of two animals, is a heart breaking moment for animal lovers. The Municipal corporation should partner with reliable NGOs that are capable of nursing dogs caught for sterilisation. It is also essential to establish a standardised municipal shelter for stray animals.

Bus stand infrastructure

Each bay in the Palayamkottai bus stand has around 20 ceiling fans, but only two are working. Though the platforms have signboards showing destinations, there is no signage at the entrance or exit to guide passengers. Clear sign boards outside the complex would help people find buses easily. Authorities also should fix the fans and install proper signs to improve passenger convenience.

Road damage

The condition of the damaged Thengamputhoor-Pallam road under Agasteeswaram taluk has further deteriorated. Two months ago, water pipes were installed along the road, damaging the tar surface. However, after laying the pipes, the damage was left unrepaired, resulting in an uneven surface that posed a serious threat to both pedestrians and motorists. The concerned authorities must take immediate action to restore the road for public safety.
