Shankar Jiwal, Director General of Police and Head of Police Force in Tamil Nadu
Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force (HoPF) Shankar Jiwal has issued instructions asking all police personnel to strictly adhere to the prescribed dress code at the police headquarters, all police department offices and while carrying out official duties.
In a circular, Mr. Jiwal noted, “It has come to notice that some police personnel attend to work in the Chief office (Police headquarters) in casual attires such as T-shirts, jeans and other non-formal wear which is inappropriate in an official set up. Further, it has also come to notice that some police personnel are seen unshaven, without obtaining proper permission from the competent authority.”
Henceforth, all police personnel working in the department and visiting the Chief office campus are requested to adhere to the dress code. Male personnel must wear a collared shirt and formal pants, neatly tucked in, along with formal shoes. They must come for duty with a neat and clean appearance. Being unshaven without prior permission from the competent authority is prohibited and will be treated as indiscipline, the circular read.
Drivers must either be in proper uniform or in mufti with formal attire and formal shoes, similar to the other personnel in the campus. Women police personnel should wear formal attire that reflects the dignity of service, the circular said.
The DGP said in the circular that all personnel are expected to maintain a professional appearance that reflects the dignity of service. Supervisory officers are instructed to monitor and ensure strict adherence to the dress code. Any deviation from these instructions should be brought to the notice of the AIG headquarters in the Chief office or any other respective Estate officer of the unit offices, it added.
