Though the Tamil Nadu government is trying various ways to prevent the Murugan conference from happening in Madurai on June 22, the organisers would make it happen, said BJP State president Nainar Nagendran.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, he pointed to HR&CE Minister P. K. Sekar Babu’s recent speeches and said they already knew that the State government would formulate plans to stop the conference.  “Conditions such as not using speakers and limited crowd, among other limitations, need not be imposed as the venue is a private area located in a secluded place away from the city limits.”

As many Murugan devotees were expected to attend the event, the government feared that it would create an uprising in the State. “However, the court’s directive had been sought to conduct the event, it would be a success,“ Mr. Nagendran added.

Refusing to comment on the internal conflict in Pattali Makkal Katchi, he said the issue pertained to that party and its functionaries and he could not answer.

Out of fear of losing the upcoming elections after BJP joined hands with AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, DMK leaders were criticising BJP for lame reasons, he said.
