Police conducted a surprise check for banned products at Palayamkottai Central Prison in Tirunelveli district on Saturday..

The Central prison has more than 1,600 inmates, including undertrials and convicts. Led by Inspector Ponraj, police teams entered the prison around 5.45 a.m. and checked the cells for banned products including sharp objects, mobile phones, tobacco products and narcotic substances.

The inspection carried out by an Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, 40 police constables and 40 warders lasted till 7.15 a.m. and no banned material was seized from any of the cell in the jail, police said.
