A day after celebrations of the IPL victory of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) led to the death of 11 persons and injuries to 47 others following chaos and stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, most of the injured persons were discharged from hospitals.

Except for six persons, who continue to be under treatment in various hospitals, all the others were sent home, doctors said on June 5.

At the State-run Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute where 18 injured persons were admitted, 16 persons were discharged. Two injured persons require surgery.

Hospital Liaison Officer Srikanth Helawar said the 16 discharged persons had suffered minor injuries. “Except for two, who have suffered fractures and required surgery, we have discharged all the others. One has already undergone surgery while the other one will be taken up for an orthopaedic procedure on June 5 evening,” he said, adding that these two may require two more days to recuperate.

At the Vydehi Super-Speciality Hospital on Vittal Mallya Road, 10 of the 12 injured persons, who were under treatment, have been discharged. 

Hospital Medical Administrator Humera Sayeeda said two persons would require another two-three days of hospitalisation, as they needed intravenous administration of medicine. “While one of them has suffered a brachial plexus injury that involves damage to the nerve network in the neck and shoulder that controls movement and sensation in the arm and hand, the other has had post-traumatic seizures and soft tissue injuries. There is nothing serious and their condition is stable,” she said.

At Manipal Hospitals, all injured except two have been discharged. “Two persons are stable, but require medical management,” hospital authorities stated.
