The Moolamppilly Coordination Committee has demanded the immediate intervention of Thrikkakara MLA, Uma Thomas, for correcting the alleged flaws in the rehabilitation sites allotted in Thuthiyoor in Vazhakkala village to the families evicted for rail and road connectivity of the Vallarpadam International Trans-shipment Container Terminal.
Representatives of the coordination committee and the members of the monitoring committee, meant for the implementation of the rehabilitation of the evictees, visited one of the two sites assigned to 56 and 114 evicted families in Thuthiyoor earlier this month. They visited the house of K.R. Vidyadaran whose house on the site has progressively subsided.

In a memorandum to Ms. Thomas, complete with a report on the plight of Mr. Vidyadaran’s family, the committee said that owing to the unfit nature of the two sites in Thuthiyoor, none of the 184 evicted families allotted plots, except five, have built houses. The few houses built have either tilted or subsided owing to the marshy nature of the land.
“We demand that both sites be reinforced through land filling at a height of one metre. Mr. Vidyadaran’s house should be demolished and rebuilt to avoid it being left in a ditch. Also, the gap in the retaining wall of the canal around his house should be plugged. The MLA should use her office to ensure that the monitoring committee, chaired by the district collector, should be convened monthly without fail,” said Francis Kalathungal, general convenor of the coordination committee.
