Belagavi police have booked a case against a social media user for posting messages that could hurt religious sentiments.

A notice has been issued to the Instagram user (@iz_lam_kima_kichuth) for posting a message about the recent gang rape of a minor in the district. He revealed the names of the accused and tried to communalise the issue. He also insulted followers of a particular faith.

Police have registered a case under BNS 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), and issued a notice to appear before the investigation officer.

Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao has urged the people to use social media responsibly. “All should cooperate to maintain law and order and ensure peace. Violation of any law will be dealt with strictly,” he said.
