The United Democratic Front (UDF) plans to hold a series of protests under the aegis of its various constituent organisations against alleged corruption in the Kozhikode Corporation. K.C. Shobhita, UDF Council Party leader at the Corporation, said that following the success of the protest by Congress workers on Saturday (May 30, 2025), the Youth League, Youth Congress, and Mahila Congress would take up the issue and join the protests.

She alleged the recent Vigilance raid on the office and home of the Superintending Engineer was an attempt to save the bigger fish by sacrificing a smaller one.

Over a hundred Congress workers laid siege to the Corporation office near Kozhikode Beach on Saturday, culminating in protests alleging corruption. The protestors blocked all entrances to the office from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., preventing employees and councillors from entering the building. They also blocked the Indian Coffee House, which serves as the Corporation office canteen, after some employees attempted to enter the building through the canteen, causing some tension.

Congress leader and MLA Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the protest, which was presided over by District Congress Committee president K. Praveen Kumar.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Chennithala said the Corporation has become a haven for the rich and corrupt, accusing it of looting the city’s people just as the Left Democratic Front government is looting the State’s citizens. He also criticised the recent addition of a division to the Corporation following delimitation.
