A woman in West Bengal’s Malda district allegedly killed her nephew and concealed his body inside a wall in her father’s house in the neighbouring Dakshin Dinajpur district. The body was recovered on Monday (June 2, 2025). In a separate incident, a man in Basanti, South 24 Parganas, was seen walking through the streets with the severed head of his sister-in-law.
The deceased in the first case has been identified as Saddam Nadab, a 31-year-old labour contractor who had been residing with his aunt in the Englishbazar area of Malda. He had reportedly been missing since May 18. Following a missing person complaint lodged at the Englishbazar police station, police initiated a probe.
Mr. Nadab’s body was eventually found in the Tapan police station area of Dakshin Dinajpur, buried inside a wall in the house of the accused’s father. Based on information gathered during investigation, officers from Englishbazar police station conducted a search at the premises and recovered the body on Monday.
According to officials, the accused woman initially provided misleading information, prompting further interrogation. She later confessed to the murder and revealed the location of the body. The accused has been identified as Moumita Nadab. Preliminary investigation has suggested that financial disputes within the family may have been a motive for the crime.
“He used to threaten me, he threatened to kill my husband and my child. So, I killed him,” Ms. Moumita told media persons while being escorted to the police station. Police are also questioning other family members to determine whether additional persons were involved in the murder.
Allegations of theft lead to brutal murder in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas
In another disturbing case, a man was seen walking through the streets of Basanti in South 24 Parganas on Saturday, May 31, carrying the severed head of his sister-in-law. Videos of the incident circulated online, drawing widespread shock and condemnation.
The accused, identified as Bimal Mondal, was arrested shortly after he voluntarily surrendered at the Basanti police station and confessed to the murder of Sati Mondal. The crime, committed in broad daylight, left local residents deeply disturbed.
“There was a family feud about the mango cultivation in our farms. My mother had complained about theft of mangoes from our farms, and fingers were pointed at my uncle, which led to his anger,” the deceased woman’s son said, tearfully recounting the series of family tragedies, having also lost his father earlier this year on February 9.
“They have been accusing me of being a thief for decades now. They have accused me of stealing multiple things. That is why I lost my cool,” Mr. Bimal told media persons while being taken into custody. His wife, however, denied all allegations of theft.
