The Royapettah police have arrested two persons from Hosur for stealing gold jewellery weighing more than 20 sovereigns from a shop near Gopalapuram here on Saturday.

The police said Gautam Surana, the manager of a jewellery showroom on Cathedral Road, had given the jewellery to their goldsmith.

When Mr. Surana opened the jewellery box the next morning, he found the gold missing and the mobile of the goldsmith switched off.

Based on a complaint from him, the police conducted a search and arrested Bobby Hazara, 44 of West Bengal, who worked at the shop, and his accomplice Shankar Thauli, who were hiding in Hosur.

They also seized two-and-a-half sovereigns of jewellery and 102 grams of copper.
