Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said that her government’s priorities are rooted in public welfare and structural reform and vowed to reverse the Capital’s “27 years of mismanagement” within the next five years.
The Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in Delhi in February 2025 after nearly 27 years.
Ms. Gupta shared some of the key achievements of her government in the first 100 days and laid out a road map during a public interaction with actor Anupam Kher at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
“We are making policies that will benefit the people of Delhi in the long run,” she said, listing initiatives, including the implementation of the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana health insurance scheme and the Delhi Cabinet’s approval for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana to provide monthly cash aid for women.
Ms. Gupta said that, unlike her predecessors, she will take up the rejuvenation of the Yamuna river as a priority, asserting that her government is committted to making Delhi clean, beautiful and healthy.
A budget of ₹9,000 crore has been allocated to strengthen the sewerage system and water infrastructure to improve the river’s condition, said the CM.
“These 100 days are just the beginning,” she said, adding, “Our next goal is a Viksit Dilli [Developed Delhi].”
Ms. Gupta also criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party government for blocking Centre-led welfare schemes, emphasising, “I will heal the mismanagement caused by the previous governments over the last 27 years in the next five.”
She said her administration gives preference to policy formulation rather than making “false promises”. “My government has spent 100 days drafting and implementing policies for Delhi’s betterment. We can’t make false promises. We are working honestly to resolve issues like the cleaning of the Yamuna and removal of garbage dumps,” she said.
The Chief Minister said the previous government treated slum dwellers as a “vote bank” and did nothing substantial for them. On waste management, she said her government has taken “concrete steps” to eliminate Delhi’s legacy waste. “The Bhalswa and Okhla landfills will be cleared within the next two years,” she said.
To combat air pollution, Ms. Gupta outlined key measures, including the deployment of 1,000 water sprinklers, 70 mechanical road sweepers, and mandating the installation of anti-smog guns on high-rises. Under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector initiative, 460 electric buses have been launched with 2,000 more planned, she said, while highlighting solar subsidies of up to ₹30,000 to promote the installation of rooftop solar panels.
The CM also spoke at Aironomics-2025, where said that her government has set aside ₹300 crore to mitigate air pollution.
