A woman was crushed to death after being runover by a lorry along Idayarpalayam-Vadavalli Road on Saturday morning, in a hit and run case.

Jasmine Ruth (39) of Ponnampalayam employed at a two-wheeler showroom in Vadavalli was proceeding to office when the accident reportedly took place at a signal.

The public intercepted a lorry at a distance and handed over the driver to the police. However, since the driver had claimed his vehicle was not the cause for the accident, the police are investigating further using CCTV footages, sources added.

Accused in robbery case arrested

COIMBATORE The Sultanpet police have arrested Dhanasekaran (37) of Palani for his alleged involvement in the theft of 12.5 sovereign gold jewellery from a house in Kallimedu during January. Dhanasekaran, who was found moving in a suspicious manner by a patrol team, had reportedly confessed to his crime at the residence of Surya at Kallimedu.
