The police have arrested two men in West Bengal for their alleged involvement in the theft of gold from a jewellery-making unit in Choolai, Chennai.
Naresh Kumar, 49, runs a jewellery-making unit on Raja Muthiah Salai, Choolai, and over 50 persons are employed there. On May 19, five workers went missing and they could not be reached by phone.
On verifying the stock, Naresh Kumar found that over 700 g of gold had gone missing and suspected it was stolen by the five persons. He lodged a complaint with the Periyamedu police, seeking to trace the suspects.
After an investigation, a special team of police went to West Bengal and arrested Deepanjain Faini, 21, and Krishnapada Karag, 21, both of whom hail from the State. About 328 g of gold was recovered from them. They were brought to Chennai and remanded in judicial custody.
Efforts are on to trace the three others who are absconding.
