The Bantwal Rural police arrested two more persons in connection with the May 27 murder of Abdul Rahiman and grievous assault on Kalandar Shafi at Ira Kodi in Kuriyala village.
The duo was arrested on May 30. Police gave the names of the arrested persons as Sumit Acharya, 27, resident of Thenka Bellur, and Raviraj, 23, resident of Badaga Bellur village, both in Bantwal taluk.
On May 29, they had arrested Deepak, a resident of Kuriyala, and Prithivraj and Chintan, both residents of Ammunje, in connection with the murder.
With this, five persons have been arrested in the case.
Dakshina Kannada district police had formed five teams under the investigating officer, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bantwal, to crack the murder.
A group of persons attacked Abdul Rahiman and Kalandar Shafi, who were unloading sand from a pick-up truck at Ira Kodi, with lethal weapons resulting in the death of the former and serious injuries to the latter.
Complainant Mohammed Nissar had told the police that Kalandar Shafi knew some of the assailants, and had named Deepak and Sumit as being a part of the group. Deepak had reportedly called Abdul Rahiman asking him to supply sand to his place.
