Like Press Council of India preserves the freedom or press while maintaining and improving standards of newspapers in the country, social media or digital media should also be regulated, Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Sreenivas Reddy said on Saturday.

Speaking at the two-day national conference on future of journalism in the age of Artificial Intelligence at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University here, he said that there was a possibility that use of artificial intelligence would be made a minimum qualification for the recruitment of journalists in the future. He advised reporters to update their skills and use AI responsibly.

According to Associate Dean, Asian College of Journalism, Mohan Ramamoorthy, new technology and devices should be used to write news, with news values by adding human intelligence. Technology is evolving rapidly, and it is difficult for media organisations to continue in the current situation without AI. But there is no technological device that is superior to human thinking and creativity, he noted.

Director of the seminar Vaddanam Srinivas summarised the two-day event and sessions and noted that there was a need to include AI and new technological elements in the journalism education curriculum.
