The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court detained two persons in connection with the kidney sale racket in Namakkal district on Sunday evening.

Following the allegations of kidneys being sold illegally for money and many women weavers from Pallipalayam and Komarapalayam selling their kidneys for money and their health being affected, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on August 25 appointed an SIT headed by Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Prem Anand Sinha to probe the allegations of an organ transplantation racket, especially that of kidney, across the state. The SIT comprises the Nilgiris Superintendent of Police (SP) N.S. Nisha, Tirunelveli SP N. Silambarasan, Coimbatore SP K. Karthikeyan, and Madurai SP B.K. Arvind.

On Sunday afternoon, the SIT team led by Coimbatore SP Karthikeyan and Madurai SP Arvind investigated regarding the allegations in Molasi and Pallipalayam in Namakkal district. In the evening, the SIT officials took Stanley Anand and Anandhan, both residents of Annai Sathya Nagar in Pallipalayam for investigations. Sources said the two acted as middle-men for the kidney sales.
