A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding mini-van while on his way to school on a bicycle, in Ashok Nagar on Wednesday (October 8, 2025).

A senior official of the city traffic police said R. Rajakaviyan, a Class 7 student, was on his way to a private school in West Mambalam on a bicycle from his home on Ashok Nagar 7th street. As he was crossing the junction of 3rd and 4th Avenue, a mini-van, allegedly being driven in a rash manner, hit his bicycle. Rajakaviyan suffered a head injury and was rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

On being alerted, the Ashok Nagar Traffic Investigation Police detained the van driver R. Prakash, of West Mambalam.
