Five men were arrested by the Ameberpet police on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) in connection with assault of an engineering student returning from a Durga immersion procession in the wee hours of October 6.
The accused were identified as 18-year-old D. Gautam, 20-year-old D. Sampath, 21-year-old B. Yashwant from Bagh Amberpet Bungalow Gully, 26-year-old A. Shivakumar from Burju Gully, and 22-year-old photographer B. Bhaskar. All five were remanded to judicial custody.
According to the police, the victim, Abhinav, a resident of Kamalanagar, Medipally, was attacked near the Ayyappa Temple in Bagh Amberpet around 2 a.m. on October 6. The accused assaulted him with sticks and beer bottles, leaving him seriously injured. Upon receiving the information, the police rushed Abhinav to a private hospital in Malakpet for treatment.
Following a complaint lodged by Abhinav’s father, the Amberpet police launched a probe from multiple angles. Kacheguda ACP Harish Kumar said that if the accused were found to be involved in repeated offences, suspect sheets would be opened against them, which could later lead to the opening of rowdy sheets.
