The Ajekaru police of Udupi district have arrested three persons for allegedly stealing cattle from a shed.
The incident took place on September 28, when they stole three head of cattle from the shed of Shirlalu village resident Jayashree after threatening her with swords.
The police gave names of the accused as Mohammad Younis alias Younis alias Yunus, 31, of Nalluru village of Karkala Taluk in Udupi district; Mohammad Nasir alias Nasir, 28, of Kallabettu Village in Moodbidri taluk of Dakshina Kannada; and Mohammad Iqbal alias Ikku, 29, of Puttige village in Moodbidri taluk of Dakshina Kannada.
They were booked for offences under Sections 329(3), 329(4), 309, 324(4), 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, and Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The police seized two swords, a car, a sports utility vehicle, and mobile phones from the accused.
The police said Nasir was accused in three cattle theft cases reported in the limits of Bajpe and Karkala Rural police stations. Mohammed Iqbal was accused in four cattle theft cases in the limits of Karkala Town, Venur, and Belthangady police stations. Yunus was accused in 10 cases reported in the limits of Karkala Town, Banakal, Moodigere, Hebri and Ajekaru police stations.
