The joint action committee of Madras University’s Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Associations on Friday staged a sit-in protest as the salary for the month of May was not released.

Usually, the university disburses salary for the month before it expires. The university has been in severe financial crisis and has been without a Vice-Chancellor for nearly two years. The committee appealed to the Chief Minister “to immediately intervene and take necessary steps to ensure disbursement” of salary and pensions for the month of May to all employees.

They said the livelihood of employees and pensioners, who rely on the monthly salary and pensions, were seriously affected.
