World Heart Day, observed at Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH) on Monday.
The theme of this year is ‘Don’t Miss a Beat’, emphasises the importance of prioritising heart health, recognising early warning signs of heart disease and seeking timely medical intervention.
To mark the day, the Department of Cardiology, TKGMCH conducted various awareness events. An awareness rally was flagged off by TKGMCH Dean G. Sivakumar. Around 100 medical and nursing students participated in the event raising slogans of healthy lifestyle practices and importance of regular exercise.
Highlighting the hospital’s cardiac care facilities, Mr. Sivakumar noted that the cardiology department performs about 120-150 coronary angiograms each month and treats more than 2,000 patients in the outpatients department monthly for various cardiac conditions.
