Two persons were killed and one person was seriously injured in a road accident near Cumbum in Theni district on Thursday (May 29, 2025) night.

According to police, G. Jeevith was going towards Narayanathevanpatti on a two-wheeler with P. Mayi riding pillion, and K. Praveen was coming in the opposite direction on his two-wheeler. Both the vehicles collided near Narayanathevanpatti, and in the impact Jeevith and Praveen died on the spot.

A seriously injured Mayi was rushed to Cumbum Government Hospital for treatment. Rayappanpatti police have registered a case.

State honours

Earlier on Wednesday (May 28), C. Periya Pandi of Pandian Nagar near Natham, who was proceeding to Sekkipatti along with his relative Pandi Pichai, suffered serious injuries when the two-wheeler he was riding had a head-on collision with a mini van.

Periya Pandi was rushed to Nathan Government Hospital, and later referred to a private hospital in Madurai for treatment. The doctors declared him brain dead and his organs were harvested. State honours were accorded to the mortal remains of the deceased at Pandian Nagar on Friday.
