The Pattinambakkam police arrested three men from Assam on charges of peddling drugs and seized 17.5 grams of heroin from them.
Upon receiving information about heroin peddling, officials from the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), in close coordination with the Pattinambakkam police, intensified surveillance near the estuary in Srinivasapuram. They nabbed three persons, conducted searches at their place of stay, and found heroin stocked there for the purpose of sale.
The police arrested the three persons, who have been identified as Ejath Ali, 27, Aziz, 26, and Imran Ali, 28 — all of whom hail from Assam — and seized 17.5 grams of heroin from them. On interrogation, the police found that they had been staying in the city and working as security guards for the past two years. They sourced the contraband from Assam and sold it to tourists from the United States, Australia, and residents of Chennai, the investigation revealed.
The accused were remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a court.
