Twenty-nine vehicles of educational institutions and 33 private buses were booked and slapped with a collective fine of ₹44,000 for various violations in a special drive conducted by multiple squads of the Motor Vehicle department at the direction of the Ernakulam Regional Transport Office (RTO) (Enforcement) and the Ernakulam Regional Transport Office in Angamaly on Monday.
Four squads from the Ernakulam RTO (Enforcement) and a squad from the Angamaly Sub RTO, checked 99 school education buses and slapped 29 of them with a fine of ₹22,250. Non-payment of road tax, operating without speed governor, employees found without uniform, and driving without fastening the seat belt were among the offences detected. The drive was conducted along Angamaly-Aluva, Angamaly-Chalakudy, Angamaly-Perumbavoor, and Angamaly-Paravur routes.
This was followed by a drive targeting private buses in which 33 buses were slapped with a fine of ₹21,250. Use of banned air horn, playing music system at loud noise, conductors without requisite licence, dysfunctional speed governors, and operating services with open doors were among the violations detected.
The drive will continue in the coming days as well.
