Chikitha Taniparthi became the first Indian compound archer to win the women’s under-21 individual title at the World Youth Archery Championships in Winnipeg, Canada.
Sharvari Shende, a 16-year-old from Pune, added another gold to India’s kitty by winning the recurve under-18 women’s individual crown, while Gatha Khadake and Agstay Singh earned the recurve mixed team bronze.
India finished with four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Chikitha, a World Cup Stage team silver medallist, defeated European youth champion Paula Diaz Morillas of Spain 142-133 in the semifinals and Asian Grand Prix silver medallist Park Yerin of Korea 142-136 in the final to earn her maiden international medal in an individual competition.
Coming from Sultanpur in Telangana, the 20-year-old karate black belt winner who switched to archery, thanked her mentor Abhishek Verma for his support.
Asian silver medallist Sharvari toppled two Koreans, Kim Minjeong 7-3 in the semifinals and Kim Yewon 6-5 (shoot-off: 10-9) in the final, to claim the Worlds under-18 women’s individual gold after Deepika Kumari and Komalika Bari.

Mixed team: Bronze medal match: India (Gatha Khadake, Agstay Singh) bt Chinese Taipei (Kao Hui-Tang, Chen Pin-An) 5-3.

Under-18: Men: Bronze medal match: Yen Tzu Hsiang (Tpe) bt Yogesh Joshi 143-139. Semifinal: Yogesh lost to Hector McNeilly 132-136.
